RBI’s Monetary Policy Committee meeting begins in Mumbai

The Reserve Bank of India’s Monetary Policy Committee began its three-day meeting in Mumbai today. The RBI’s policy review comes amid renewed tensions in West Asia, elevated crude oil prices and concerns over food inflation.

The Committee will also assess the inflation outlook and prevailing economic conditions before announcing its decision at the end of the three-day meeting.

The last repo rate hike was in February 2023, when the RBI raised the rate by 25 basis points to 6.50 per cent. It subsequently kept the rate unchanged through 2023-24 before beginning its rate-cut cycle in 2025. The policy repo rate currently stands at 5.25 per cent.
