Rajya Sabha member from Punjab, Sant Balbir Singh Seechewal, has demanded a thorough investigation from the Central government into the nexus of a ‘Khan Baba’ gang targeting unemployed youth of Punjab with a promise to settle them in foreign countries. However, the gang held them captive and demanded ransom from their parents for their release.   

 

Sant Seechewal, while speaking to the media yesterday, narrated the tale of two youths from Jalandhar and Kapurthala who had been promised jobs in Spain but taken to Thailand and kept hostage by the gang. He said their parents met and told him that the gangsters demanded huge sums as ransom for release. Although one of them has returned after Sant Seechewal took up the issue with the External Affairs Ministry but other one is now in custody of Thailand Police.

 

Sant Seechewal said that he has written to the Ministry of Home and External Affairs and DGP, Punjab for thorough probe into the entire network with assistance from Interpol as many such cases from Punjab involving unscrupulous agents, who charge huge amount of money to send youth abroad, and this gang had surfaced earlier also.
