Rajya Sabha has been adjourned till 2:00 PM following opposition uproar over several issues, including alleged police action during students’ protest over the NEET issue. When the House met after the first adjournment at 12 noon, Chairman C P Radhakrishnan took up the Question Hour.
Union Minister for Power Manohar Lal said that the draft National Electricity Policy, 2026, is at the finalisation stage following the completion of consultations with concerned stakeholders. Replying to supplementary, the Minister said that the policy has been framed to strengthen the smart power distribution system. He added that proper care has been taken towards demand and supply side management to ensure regular supply of electricity.
Mr Lal replied to the supplementaries amid the Opposition uproar. As the ruckus continued, the Chairman adjourned the House till 2:00 PM. Earlier, when the House met at 11 AM, the Ministers laid papers of their concerned Ministry on the table of the House. The reports of the department-related Parliamentary Standing Committee on Finance, Housing and Urban Affairs, Railway, Social Justice and Empowerment were also tabled. After that, Chairman C P Radhakrishnan took up the Zero Hour.
Tarun Chugh of BJP raised the issue of the deteriorating law and order situation in Punjab and the growing menace of drug abuse. He added that the youth in Punjab are increasingly falling prey to drug addiction, which has also contributed to a steady rise in criminal activities across the state. He said that due to excessive drug consumption, 89 people lost their lives in one year. Mr Chugh alleged that despite this, the government in Punjab has not taken effective steps to curb the menace of drug abuse.
Babubhai Jesangbhai Desai of BJP raised the issue of Chandipura virus disease in Gujarat and urged the government to carry out a campaign at the national level to tackle the disease. Sandosh Kumar of CPI, Biswajit Sinha and Dr K Laxman of BJP also raised the issues of matters of urgent public importance. However, due to continued sloganeering, the Chairman adjourned the House till 12 noon.
