Rajya Sabha adjourned till 2 PM amid opposition uproar over several issues

The Rajya Sabha has been adjourned till 2:00 PM following opposition ruckus over several issues, including alleged police action during students’ protest over NEET issue. When the House met at 11:00 AM, the Ministers laid papers of their concerned Ministry on the table of the House. The reports of the department-related Parliamentary Standing Committee on Defence, Finance, Transport, Tourism and Culture, Agriculture, Animal Husbandry and Food Processing, Coal Mines and Steel were also tabled.

Amid opposition uproar, Chairman C P Radhakrishnan took up the Zero Hour. During Zero Hour, CPI (M) member John Brittas raised the issue of alleged derogatory remarks made by a member against him in the House. On the issue, Rajya Sabha Chairman C P Radhakrishnan said that certain incidents have come to his notice regarding discourteous and undignified comments being made by Members while interrupting the speeches of other Members in the House.

 

The Chairman advised the Members to be very careful and not to hurt the sentiments and feelings of their fellow Members. He said, India’s culture is unique and inclusive of diverse regional cultures, and there should be no disrespect to the cultural traditions and regional identities of Members. Satnam Singh Sandhu of the BJP raised the issue of public importance.
