The Rajya Sabha has been adjourned till 2 PM following an opposition uproar over alleged police action during students’ protests over the NEET issue. When the House reassembled at noon after the first adjournment, Rajya Sabha Chairman C. P. Radhakrishnan tried to take up Question Hour, but opposition members started sloganeering, pressing their demands. As the pandemonium continued, the Chairman adjourned the House till 2 PM.

Earlier, when the House assembled at 11 AM, several Union Ministers laid papers on the Table of the House. The report of the Department-related Parliamentary Standing Committee on Coal, Mines and Steel was also presented.

After that, Chairman C. P. Radhakrishnan took up Zero Hour. CPI(M) MP John Brittas raised the issue of the alleged entry of Delhi Police into the CPI(M) headquarters in New Delhi to take action against former President of the JNU Students’ Union, Aishe Ghosh. Responding to the issue, Leader of the House J. P. Nadda said that it was a routine law-and-order matter, adding that police take appropriate action whenever any student engages in activism and takes the law into their own hands. Mr Nadda said that during the Emergency, he was also arrested from the classroom.

However, opposition members continued their protest, pressing their demands, following which the Chairman adjourned the House till noon.
