Rajya Sabha has been adjourned till 2 PM following opposition ruckus over several issues, including alleged police action during students’ protest over the NEET issue. When the Upper House met after the first adjournment at 12 Noon, Chairman CP Radhakrishnan took up Question Hour.
Replying to supplementaries, Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari said that driving training schools will be established in various parts of the country. He said that the government has already granted permission to open 300 such institutes. The Minister highlighted that country is facing a shortage of about 22 lakh drivers. Mr Gadkari also stressed the importance of scientific training for drivers, particularly in maintaining lane discipline and adhering to traffic rules. He said proper training can play a key role in saving lives on the roads.
The Minister also expressed concern over the rising number of road accidents in the country, saying it is painful that nearly one lakh 80 thousand people lose their lives in road accidents every year. He said the government has taken several measures to improve road safety, including better road engineering and stricter enforcement of traffic laws.
During Question Hour, the opposition members were on their feet demanding a statement from Union Home Minister Amit Shah over the alleged police action against students during the protest. As the ruckus continued, the Chairman adjourned the House till 2 PM.
Earlier, when the House met at 11 AM, Chairman CP Radhakrishnan took up Zero Hour amid opposition uproar.
BJP MP from Jammu and Kashmir Sat Paul Sharma recalled the abrogation of Article 370, saying it was carried out on this day seven years ago. He said, today is a historic day not only in the history of Jammu and Kashmir but also in the history of the entire nation. Mr Sharma said, the decision has brought Jammu and Kashmir on a path toward new heights of development.
He said that for decades, Article 370 had kept Jammu and Kashmir isolated. Mr Sharma said that the abrogation of Article 370 marks a significant step in the history of India’s unity and integrity. He added that today the benefits of every government scheme are reaching every resident of Jammu and Kashmir, which was not possible earlier.
BJP MP from Haryana Sanjay Bhatia expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for giving Haryana India’s first hydrogen train, which is also the first in Asia and the longest in the world. He said that before 2014, India often looked towards other countries and spoke about their achievements.
