Former self-styled godman Asaram received partial relief from the Rajasthan High Court today in a rape case involving a minor. A division bench of the court acquitted him of charges related to gang rape, gang penetrative sexual assault under the POCSO Act, and criminal conspiracy. However, the court upheld his conviction for the rape of a minor under the Indian Penal Code, meaning his life imprisonment sentence will continue.
The High Court has directed Asaram to surrender. He is currently out on temporary bail, which had been extended by seven days earlier this week.
