Railways Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw has said that around 89 per cent of reserved tickets are currently booked online, compared to about 49 per cent in 2013-14. Mr Vaishnaw said this in a written reply to a Question in Lok Sabha today. He informed that Railways has launched the RailOne App with a view to expand the digital mode of procurement of reserved as well as unreserved tickets. This App enables passengers to book reserved as well as unreserved tickets on a mobile phone.
The Minister said that in cases of train cancellation, the online e-ticketing system automatically initiates refund process immediately after the scheduled time of departure of the train. The refund is then credited directly to the passenger’s bank account.
