The Quad partners-India, Australia, Japan and the United States conducted a tabletop exercise in Tokyo on the 3rd and 4th of this month to advance the Quad Indo-Pacific Logistics Network (IPLN) and enhance civilian response efforts across the region. The exercise was hosted by Japan’s Ministry of Defense.
The Ministry of External Affairs said, the exercise focused on natural disaster response scenarios, through which the Quad partners examined ways to leverage each other’s logistics capabilities. The exercise also aimed to strengthen interoperability and streamline coordination among the four partners.
The Ministry said, the exercise marked significant progress towards developing Standard Operating Procedures for the IPLN, which will provide an institutional framework for its effective operationalisation.
The Quad partners expressed their deepest condolences to all those affected by the recent devastating floods and reaffirmed their shared commitment to supporting regional partners in times of need. They also discussed ways to coordinate humanitarian assistance and disaster relief efforts during crises and emergencies.
The tabletop exercise reaffirmed the Quad’s commitment to strengthening practical cooperation to address regional challenges and ensure a free and open Indo-Pacific. The partners will continue efforts to operationalise the IPLN through tabletop and field training exercises, confidence-building measures and exchanges among subject-matter experts.
