Punjab Police busts cross-border arms, narcotics and hawala network in Amritsar

Punjab Police, in a joint operation with a central agency, has busted a cross-border illegal arms, narcotics and hawala network in Amritsar district. Seven accused, including an Afghan national and a juvenile, have been apprehended. Police have recovered 10 sophisticated weapons, including two sub-machine guns, more than five kilograms of heroin, and 30 lakh 38 thousand rupees in hawala money from their possession.
 
According to Police sources, preliminary investigations have revealed that the accused were allegedly linked to foreign-based handlers operating through social media platforms. They reportedly received consignments and distributed narcotics and illegal arms to criminal elements. The network is also suspected to have used hawala channels for financial transactions across various locations.
Further investigation is underway.
