Punjab caps private school fee hikes at 5%

Punjab Governor Gulab Chand Kataria has given his assent to ‘The Punjab Regulation of Fee of Unaided Education Institutions (Amendment) Ordinance, 2026’, which paves the way for stricter regulation of fee by all private schools in the state.

Under the new legal provisions, private unaided schools will not be allowed to increase annual fees and associated charges by more than five per cent in an academic year, without prior approval of the competent authority.

This would be a relief to parents from the higher fee structure. The new law will be implemented from today itself.
