Elaborate arrangements have been made by the Pune Police and civic administration for the Ganesh idol immersion procession scheduled for September 25, marking the culmination of the Ganesh festival. A total of 638 Ganesh mandals are expected to participate through the four main procession routes – Laxmi Road, Tilak Road, Kumthekar Road and Kelkar Road. Over 10,000 police personnel, Home Guards and other security personnel will be deployed for security and crowd management.
The procession will be monitored through around 3,500 CCTV cameras, along with artificial intelligence-based video analysis, facial recognition systems and drones. A special control room has been established at Faraskhana Police Station, while five mobile surveillance vehicles and 19 mini-surveillance vehicles will assist in monitoring the procession. Traffic restrictions and diversions will be implemented on several major roads, while heavy vehicles will face restrictions during the immersion period.
The Pune Municipal Corporation has also made extensive arrangements for eco-friendly immersion, including 35 immersion ghats, 69 artificial tanks and 648 iron tanks. Facilities for idol collection and nirmalya collection have also been provided at several locations.
Noise levels will be monitored at 112 locations, and medical teams and emergency services will be deployed along the procession routes. The administration has appealed to devotees and Ganesh mandals to follow safety, traffic and noise-control regulations and cooperate with the authorities for a peaceful and orderly immersion procession.
