Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare has informed that the progress of area coverage under Kharif Crops has recorded more than 967 lakh hectare area as of 7th of this month. It added that the rice has been grown over more than 344 lakh hectares, while oilseeds were sown over more than 180 lakh hectare area, which is an increase of over 5 lakh hectare area compared to the corresponding year. According to the Ministry, Shri Anna cum Coarse cereals were cultivated in over 168 lakh hectare area. It added that more than 106 lakh hectare area was covered with Cotton. Additionally, the area cultivated with Pulses was recorded with area coverage of more than 103 lakh hectares. The Ministry informed that Sugarcane was grown on more than 58 lakh hectare areas, while Jute and Mesta cover more than 6 lakh hectare areas.
