Lok Sabha has been adjourned till 3 PM following opposition uproar over alleged police action during students’ protest over the NEET paper leak issue. When the House reassembled after the first adjournment at 2 PM, opposition members again started sloganeering and demanded a statement from Union Home Minister Amit Shah on the matter. Amid the din, the Chair adjourned the House till 3 PM.

 

When the House met for the day at 11 AM, Speaker Om Birla congratulated para-athletes Dilip Gavit for winning the gold medal and Mohammed Basil for clinching the silver medal in the men’s 100-metre race at the 23rd Commonwealth Games in Glasgow. On behalf of the House, Mr Birla congratulated them and extended best wishes to all the players and their coaches for enhancing the nation’s pride.

 

Later, when the Speaker tried to take up the Question Hour, opposition members started sloganeering over the alleged police action during the students’ protest. Opposition MPs demanded a statement from Union Home Minister Amit Shah on the issue.

 

Mr Birla said Question Hour belongs to the Members and is the most important business. The Speaker said that all MPs, both in the House and during the meeting of floor leaders, had been appealed to not disrupt the proceedings of the House during Question Hour. Mr Birla said obstructing the proceedings of the House is not in accordance with parliamentary traditions.
