Maharashtra Governor Jishnu Dev Varma met 50th Imam of the Ismaili community, eminent philanthropist and Chairman of the Aga Khan Development Network, Prince Rahim Aga Khan V at Lok Bhavan in Mumbai today.
During the meeting, Prince Rahim Aga Khan said the Aga Khan Development Network was working on climate action plans for cities and implementing innovative cooling solutions in Maharashtra. He also expressed interest in collaborating with universities in the state on climate action and environmental protection.
Governor Varma expressed interest in working with the network on livelihood development, particularly in tribal and rural areas. He said partnerships in education, environment, climate action and livelihood generation could benefit people across the state.
Prince Rahim Aga Khan also met Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis in Mumbai. The two sides discussed social development, healthcare, climate action, water management, heritage conservation and public-private partnership initiatives.
The delegation briefed the Chief Minister on a study aimed at reducing urban heat through increased green cover, sustainable urban planning and climate action. Mr. Fadnavis said such initiatives could benefit cities across Maharashtra..
