President of Zanzibar and Chairman of the Revolutionary Council, Dr Hussein Ali Mwinyi, who is on a four-day official visit to India, will arrive in New Delhi this evening.
Yesterday, President Mwinyi attended the 63rd Convocation Ceremony of the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) in Chennai as the chief guest. Speaking on the occasion, he said that the establishment of IIT Madras Zanzibar, the first international campus of IIT Madras, represents far more than an educational milestone. It reflects a shared belief that knowledge should know no borders and that excellence should never be confined by geography.
The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said the visit is of special significance as the Zanzibar campus of IIT Madras has successfully completed two years since its establishment in October 2023.
Tomorrow, Dr Mwinyi will hold talks with Vice President CP Radhakrishnan in New Delhi and review the entire spectrum of India-Tanzania relations and explore new avenues for future cooperation. External Affairs Minister Dr S Jaishankar will also call on the visiting dignitary.
The MEA said that, as partners in the Global South, India and Tanzania share long-standing, close ties of friendship and cooperation across a wide range of sectors. It added that the visit is expected to provide fresh impetus to further strengthening bilateral relations for mutual benefit.
