Yoga is celebration of India’s great tradition: President Murmu

In Madhya Pradesh, President Droupadi Murmu, Governor Mangubhai Patel and Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav performed yoga at the state-level event for the 12th International Yoga Day. The event was held at Garrison Ground in Jabalpur. A large number of public representatives, officials and citizens were present.
 
Addressing the event, the President said yoga is a celebration of India’s great tradition. She said it has shown humanity the path to a healthy, balanced and meaningful life. She said yoga is the result of thousands of years of practice by India’s sages and saints. She said it is a powerful medium that connects a person to themselves, society to nature, and humanity to universal consciousness.
 
The President said that in 2014, at India’s request, the United Nations General Assembly declared June 21 as International Yoga Day. She said over the past 12 years, this initiative has further strengthened yoga’s identity as a powerful tool for global wellbeing. She also mentioned the first World Yogasana Championship held in Ahmedabad, in which participants from several countries took part.
 
The President said this year’s theme, “Yoga for Healthy Ageing”, highlights the importance of yoga for a healthy, self-reliant and dignified life for senior citizens. She said yoga provides mental peace and emotional balance. She said yoga plays a key role in preventing lifestyle diseases as part of holistic healthcare.
 
She said the Government of India is continuously working in the fields of yoga education, research, training and public awareness. The President urged all citizens to make yoga an integral part of daily life. She said this would contribute to building a healthy individual, a healthy family, a healthy society, a healthy nation and a healthy world.
 
After the event, the President will go to Rani Durgavati University at 11:30 am. She will attend the university’s 36th convocation ceremony as the chief guest. Governor Patel will also be present at the ceremony.
 
On June 22, the President will visit Kuno National Park. She will meet members of the Sahariya tribe, cheetah trackers and the park’s field team.
