India and Cyprus have huge potential in semiconductors, AI and space sectors: President Droupadi Murmu

President Droupadi Murmu has said there is tremendous potential for cooperation between India and Cyprus in new and emerging sectors such as semiconductors, space and Artificial Intelligence.

The President was speaking after hosting a banquet in honour of her Cyprus counterpart Nikos Christodoulides and his delegation at Rashtrapati Bhavan yesterday. She said technology and innovation have emerged as key forward-looking areas of the bilateral relationship.

President Murmu stressed that India’s young talent, technological capabilities and start-up ecosystem can complement Cyprus’ innovation ecosystem. She underlined strong potential for cooperation in sectors including semiconductors, renewable energy, green energy, space, sustainable development and Artificial Intelligence.

She also appreciated Cyprus’ support on important issues such as cross-border terrorism and reform of multilateral institutions. The President reiterated India’s unwavering support for the sovereignty, unity and territorial integrity of Cyprus.

President Murmu said bilateral relations have been elevated to the level of a Strategic Partnership, reflecting the growing maturity, depth and mutual trust in the relationship between the two countries. She added that Cyprus remains one of the major sources of Foreign Direct Investment in India, with Cypriot companies showing increasing interest in expanding trade and investment ties.

President Murmu further noted that during its Presidency of the Council of the European Union, Cyprus can play an important role in strengthening economic cooperation between India and Europe, particularly following the conclusion of the India-EU Free Trade Agreement.
