Prime Minister Narendra Modi today paid homage to the Indian Hockey Legend Major Dhyan Chand on the occasion of National Sports Day. In a social media post, Mr Modi said that Major Dhyan Chand’s brilliance in Indian hockey continues to inspire generations. Extending his greetings to all sports lovers, the Prime Minister said that their dedication, passion and determination make the nation proud.

Union Youth Affairs and Sports Minister Dr Mansukh Mandaviya also paid floral tribute to Indian hockey legend Major Dhyan Chand on the occasion of National Sports Day in New Delhi. Talking to the media, Dr Mandaviya said that National Sports Day is celebrated every year to commemorate the birth anniversary of Major Dhyan Chand.

He said with the aim of taking the Fit India Movement forward, the ‘One Hour on the Playing Field’ programme has been organised across the nation. Dr Mandaviya also called upon everyone to spend at least one hour on the playing field every week and keep themselves fit and healthy. He emphasised that a fit youth and a healthy society are essential for building a prosperous nation.
