Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be on a four-day visit to Uzbekistan and Kyrgyz Republic starting this Saturday. Addressing a press conference in New Delhi, External Affairs Ministry Secretary (West) Sibi George said that on the first leg of his visit, the Prime Minister will undertake a two-day State Visit to Tashkent, Uzbekistan at the invitation of the President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev. During the visit, Mr Modi will hold delegation-level talks with President Mirziyoyev to further strengthen the strategic partnership between India and Uzbekistan. He informed that the two leaders will also review cooperation in trade and investment, defence, digital connectivity, energy, education and people-to-people domains and set the agenda for the road ahead.
From Tashkent, the Prime Minister will travel to Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan to participate in the 26th Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Summit on the 31st of this month at the invitation of the President of Kyrgyz Republic Sadyr Zhaparov. The Secretary noted that during the two-day visit, Prime Minister Modi will address the Summit where he will highlight India’s priorities of Security, Connectivity and Opportunity at the forum. The Prime Minister is also scheduled to hold bilateral meetings with SCO leaders on the sidelines of the Summit. He will also attend the Opening Ceremony of the 6th World Nomad Games, a celebration of the rich cultural heritage of Central Asia. External Affairs Ministry said that the Summit marks the 25th anniversary of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, of which India has been a full member since 2017.
