Prime Minister Narendra Modi will release the 23rd instalment of the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-KISAN) scheme from Tarakeswar in Hooghly district of West Bengal tomorrow. The Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare informed that more than 18,880 crore rupees will be transferred directly into the bank accounts of over 9.44 crore farmers across the country.
More than 2.18 crore women farmers will also benefit from the instalment. With this release, the total disbursement under the PM-KISAN scheme since its launch in February 2019 will exceed 4.46 lakh crore rupees. In West Bengal alone, over 45.35 lakh farmers will receive more than 907 crore rupees under the latest instalment.
On the occasion, the Prime Minister will also launch several key agriculture initiatives in West Bengal. These include the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana and the Restructured Weather-Based Crop Insurance Scheme, which aim to provide insurance coverage to over 1.10 crore farmers in the state during 2026-27. Mr Modi will also launch AgriStack under the Digital Agriculture Mission to provide farmers with easier access to services such as crop insurance, credit, fertiliser distribution and direct benefit transfers through a unified digital platform.
The Prime Minister will further launch the National Mission on Natural Farming in the state. Under the mission, 346 natural farming clusters covering 17 thousand 300 hectares will be established, benefiting over 43 thousand farmers.
In addition, implementation of the Pradhan Mantri Dhan-Dhaanya Krishi Yojana will be initiated in Purulia, Darjeeling, Alipurduar and Jhargram districts to boost agricultural productivity, strengthen irrigation and post-harvest infrastructure, and improve farmers’ access to institutional credit. The Agriculture Ministry said that special programmes will be organised across the country as PM-KISAN Utsav Diwas, with over one crore farmers expected to join the main event through video conferencing.
