Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be on a six day visit to Indonesia, Australia and New Zealand from Monday. Briefing media in New Delhi this evening, Secretary (East) in Ministry of External Affairs, Rudrendra Tandon, informed that Mr Modi will be in Indonesia from 6th to 8th of this month. This will be Prime Minister’s fourth visit to Indonesia and his first bilateral visit since the elevation of India-Indonesia ties to the level of Comprehensive Strategic Partnership in May 2018.

 

During the visit, Prime Minister will hold bilateral discussions with Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto and review the progress made in the partnership. His main engagements will be in Jakarta, but the Prime Minister will also visit a cultural and historic city Yogyakarta.

 

In Jakarta, Prime Minister will address a large gathering of the Indian Diaspora. Secretary (East) said, in Yogyakarta, Mr Modi will go to the Prambanan Temple complex. Secretary (East) said, India and Indonesia will be collaborating on the conservation work there. He said, the visit of the Prime Minister to Indonesia will very much be a continuation of the discussions on various bilateral tracks of cooperation that began when President Prabowo visited India as the Guest of Honour for the 2025 Republic Day celebrations.

 

Secretary (East) said, Indonesia has always played an important role in the security and stability of the Malacca Strait maritime zone. Mr Tandon said, this is a very important maritime zone for India, as it represents one of the country’s most important sea lanes of communication. He said, it is significant not only for India as an Indian Ocean nation, but probably for the global economy as well.

 

The Secretary (East) said, the second leg of the visit will be to Australia from 8th to 10th of this month. He said, Mr Modi will reach Melbourne where he will participate in the third India-Australia Annual Summit with Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese.

 

Mr Tandon said, the conversations will cover emerging areas of the bilateral relations, in particular the critical minerals, the cybersecurity domain, supply chain resilience, emerging technologies, and others.

 

During his visit, Prime Minister will also participate in the India-Australia CEOs Forum, where he will address a gathering of top business leaders from both countries. Prime Minister will also address a large gathering of the Indian Diaspora, who constitute a strong pillar of the India-Australia relationship.

 

On the third and last leg of his three nation visit, Mr Modi will be in New Zealand from 10th to 11th July. Mr Tandon said, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will hold talks with his New Zealand counterpart Christopher Luxon. Both leaders will review the entire gamut of the bilateral relationship, which has seen significant progress in the last two years, especially in the areas of trade and commerce and defence.

 

The Secretary (East) said, the visit to New Zealand will be the first visit by the Indian Prime Minister in 40 years. Prime Minister will also interact with prominent business and sports personalities. In a reflection of the strong people-to-people ties that exist between India and New Zealand, Prime Minister will address a large gathering of the Indian Diaspora during the visit.
