Prime Minister Narendra Modi will arrive in West Bengal tomorrow on a two-day visit, his first since the BJP formed the government in the state. During the visit, he will take part in the West Bengal Day celebrations at Tarakeswar in Hooghly, lead the International Yoga Day programme on Kolkata’s Red Road, and dedicate three indigenously built warships – INS Dunagiri, INS Sanshodhak, and INS Agray – to the nation.
The Prime Minister will also inaugurate and lay the foundation stones of several development projects, including railway initiatives worth nearly 590 crore rupees, a new 300-bed railway hospital in Howrah, and a rail overbridge in East Midnapore. He will also launch 49 rural road projects under the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana, covering more than 315 kilometres.
In the agriculture sector, Mr Modi will formally introduce the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana in West Bengal, aimed at providing insurance coverage to nearly 50 lakh farmers. He will also unveil initiatives under the Digital Agriculture Mission, including Agri Stack and the Dhan-Dhanya Krishi Yojana. On the same occasion, over 18 thousand 880 crore rupees under the PM-Kisan scheme will be transferred to the accounts of more than 9.4 crore farmers nationwide, including over 900 crore rupees to more than 45 lakh farmers in West Bengal.
In the fisheries and animal husbandry sector, projects such as a modern fishing harbour at Fraserganj, a fish market in Birbhum, and eastern India’s first goat semen research laboratory in Nadia will also be launched.
On June 21st, the Prime Minister will lead the 12th International Yoga Day celebrations in Kolkata, themed “Yoga for Healthy Aging.”
Later, at Syama Prasad Mookerjee Port, he will dedicate the three indigenously built warships to the nation. The vessels, constructed at Garden Reach Shipbuilders and Engineers in Kolkata, have over 75 percent indigenous content and involved more than 200 small and medium enterprises.
