PM Modi launches next phase of Viksit UDAN to give fillip to air travel in Tier-2 and Tier-3 cities

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has launched the next phase of the regional air connectivity scheme Viksit UDAN to give fillip to air travel in Tier-2 and Tier-3 cities and remote regions. Mr Modi also inaugurated the new terminal building at Jodhpur Airport in Rajasthan yesterday, marking a major push to India’s civil aviation infrastructure and regional connectivity.
 
Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu highlighted that the launch of the Viksit UDAN Scheme will mark the next chapter of India’s regional connectivity journey. Mr Naidu said the scheme, launched by the Prime Minister with an outlay of over 28,840 crore rupees, will strengthen connectivity in Tier-2 and Tier-3 cities. He said the scheme will facilitate the development of over 100 new aerodromes and 200 helipads, bringing the dream of affordable air travel closer to millions and connecting the aspirations of a rising India.
 
Referring to the inauguration of the new terminal at Jodhpur Airport, Mr Naidu said the world-class facility will strengthen connectivity in the Marwar region while opening new avenues for tourism, trade, and economic growth across Rajasthan. The event was attended by Rajasthan Governor Haribhau Kisanrao Bagde, Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma, Union Tourism and Culture Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, Minister of State for Civil Aviation Murlidhar Mohol and other dignitaries.
