PM Modi holds bilateral meeting with European Council President & European Commission President on sidelines of G7 Summit

Prime Minister Narendra Modi today held a bilateral meeting with European Council President António Costa and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen on the sidelines of the G7 Summit in Evian.

The leaders exchanged views on regional and global issues of mutual interest and welcomed recent developments in West Asia. They reaffirmed their shared commitment to promoting a resilient multipolar global order that supports peace, stability, prosperity and sustainable development.

They noted the recent conclusion of negotiations on the India-European Union Free Trade Agreement, describing it as a historic achievement. The leaders stressed the need for its early signing and implementation, saying it would create significant opportunities for trade and investment and help diversify supply chains amid a challenging geopolitical environment.

The leaders also reviewed progress on the Joint India-EU Comprehensive Strategic Agenda, endorsed in January. They expressed confidence that the agenda would further strengthen the India-EU strategic partnership and deliver mutually beneficial and transformative outcomes.
