On World Rhino Day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that India celebrates the magnificent greater one-horned rhinoceros and laud all those at the forefront of its protection. In a social media post, he underlined that Assam now holds nearly 80 percent of the world’s rhino population and Kaziranga’s efforts to end rhino poaching have been extensively appreciated. He informed that rhinos have either returned or are well protected in parts of Bihar and West Bengal. He added that success of reintroduction of rhinos in Dudhwa in Uttar Pradesh is creating history. Mr Modi highlighted the sustained commitment of countrymen towards animal protection and active wildlife management in the range states. Prime Minister Modi stated that Project Rhino has been initiated for financial and technical support to the range states for protection, habitat management, genetic improvement and understanding population dynamics.
