Vice President CP Radhakrishnan today expressed grief over the loss of lives and devastation caused by the flash floods in Nepal.
In a social media post, Mr Radhakrishnan conveyed his condolences to the bereaved families and prayed for the speedy recovery of those injured. He also prayed for the safe and swift rescue of all those who are missing. Mr Radhakrishnan said that the thoughts of the people of India are with the people of Nepal during this difficult hour.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke to his Nepalese counterpart Balendra Shah and conveyed condolences on the loss of lives due to the floods in Nepal.
In a social media post, Mr Modi said, the people of India stand in solidarity with their sisters and brothers in Nepal at this difficult time. He said, India is ready to provide all possible humanitarian assistance to Nepal. The Prime Minister said, our teams are coordinating closely on rescue and relief efforts.
The Indian Embassy in Kathmandu issued emergency numbers for assistance and information regarding Indian nationals affected by the flash floods in Nepal today. The Embassy said that people requiring assistance can contact the embassy on helpline +977 985 131 6807 and +977 970 910 7500.
The Embassy said, it has remained engaged with the relevant authorities of Government of Nepal for early rescue and relief for Indian nationals affected by the flash floods. It said, rescue and relief efforts continue to be strengthened in coordination with the Government of Nepal.
According to the official sources, India is preparing to send relief material as soon as possible to Nepal.
The Tamil Nadu Government has announced a help desk for tourists from Tamil Nadu who have gone to visit Nepal. The Government has appealed to get in touch with the help desk and the State Department for Overseas Affairs. It said that help can also be sought from the Tamil Nadu House in New Delhi. Helplines numbers are 1800 309 3793 and 918069009900. Tamil Nadu House Delhi Help Desk number are 9289516712 and 9180 6900 9901.
