President Murmu, VP Radhakrishnan, PM Modi Congratulate Indian Women’s Football Team on SAFF 2026 Win

President Droupadi Murmu, Vice President CP Radhakrishnan and Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta have congratulated the Indian Women’s Football Team on winning the SAFF Championship 2026. 
 
India defeated the defending champions, Bangladesh, 3-1 in the final held at Madgaon in Goa yesterday to win the title for a record sixth time.
 
In a social media post, the President said that the women footballers displayed exceptional skill, determination and teamwork throughout the tournament. President Murmu expressed confidence that the remarkable achievement of the team will inspire young girls across the nation to pursue their dreams with confidence and courage.
 
The Vice-President, in his message, said the remarkable achievement reflects the growing strength of women’s football in India and will inspire aspiring athletes across the country. Mr Radhakrishnan said that this is a proud moment for the nation as the team has secured a record-extending sixth title.
 
The Prime Minister said that the team played excellently throughout the tournament. He added that this win will encourage more youngsters to play football in the coming times. Mr Modi gave best wishes to the team for their future endeavours.
 
In a social media post, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh said the remarkable feat reflects the players’ tireless hard work, unwavering dedication, and exceptional team spirit. He added that their success will inspire young athletes across the country to aim high, strive for excellence, and contribute to the nation’s sporting future. He wished all the players continued success and a bright future ahead.
 
Union Minister for Youth Affairs and Sports Dr Mansukh Mandaviya also congratulated the Indian Women’s team on lifting the SAFF Championship trophy. Dr Mandaviya called it a proud moment for Indian football. 
 
In a social media post, Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta said the team displayed remarkable determination, skill and teamwork throughout the tournament.
