Prime Minister Narendra Modi has expressed grief over the passing of eminent artisan Thiru Vummidi Ethiraj. In a social media post, Mr Modi said that he will always be remembered for his efforts in crafting the historic Sengol that was presented to Former Prime Minister Jawahar Lal Nehru.

He said that it was the NDA Government which had the honour of giving the Sengol a place of pride in the new Parliament building in 2023. Mentioning his meeting with Thiru Vummidi Ethiraj, Mr Modi said that he had expressed gratitude for what Thiru Vummidi Ethiraj has done for the nation and its culture.
