Department of Pharmaceuticals Secretary Manoj Joshi today urged the medical device industry to provide greater input in shaping India’s regulatory framework. Speaking at the CII Global MedTech Summit in New Delhi, Mr Joshi said the industry’s participation in regulatory discussions was currently limited and stressed the need for a stronger industry-government dialogue. He said medical devices should have a regulatory framework distinct from drugs, as devices are engineering products whose quality depends on design, manufacturing and testing. Mr Joshi also highlighted the need for stronger testing of both medical device designs and finished products.
