Peru: 13 people killed after tourist plane crashed into field near Nazca

In Peru, 13 people were killed after a tourist plane crashed into a field near the city of Nazca. According to a statement posted by Nazca’s municipal government on social media, the aircraft was carrying tourists on a sightseeing flight over the famed Nazca Lines, an ancient geoglyphs etched into the desert by Peru’s Indigenous inhabitants centuries ago. The municipal government said the aircraft, operated by Peruvian airline Aerodiana, had departed from the nearby city of Ica. Peruvian authorities said the cause of the accident is under investigation. President Keiko Fujimori Higuchi lamented the loss of lives in the plane crash and said she is awaiting the progress of the investigations.
