Parliamentary Panel on External Affairs meets J&K CM Omar Abdullah in Srinagar

In Jammu and Kashmir, the Parliamentary Standing Committee on External Affairs, led by Member Parliament Shashi Tharoor, today met Chief Minister Omar Abdullah in Srinagar. The Committee briefed the Chief Minister on the objectives of its visit and its engagements across the Union Territory.

The 13-member Committee is on a four-day study visit to Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh to gain first-hand insights into border management, security preparedness and developmental issues in border areas.

During the meeting, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah appreciated the Committee’s visit and emphasised the importance of sustained engagement by Parliamentary Committees to better understand the aspirations, challenges and developmental needs of the Union Territory.

The Chief Minister also stressed the need for balanced development in border areas, with a focus on improving infrastructure, connectivity, public services and livelihood opportunities for local residents.
