Paris returns to normal following weekend of violent unrest; over 2,400 people arrested across France

Paris returned to normal today after experiencing its first peaceful night following a weekend of violent unrest, considered the worst rioting in France in years.

Authorities imposed curfews in several cities to restore order and prevent further violence.

Meanwhile, French Prime Minister Sébastien Lecornu said that new curfews would be imposed in areas where the situation required.

In a social media post, Mr Lecornu thanked police personnel, Gendarmes and prefects for their duties to help maintain law and order.

At least 2,400 people were arrested after rioters clashed with police across France yesterday, set cars on fire, stormed public buildings and engulfed a historic city hall in flames. The violence erupted amid nationwide protests over the rising cost of living.

In Paris, a curfew was imposed overnight to maintain law and order.
