At the Paralympic Games in Paris, India’s medal hopes continue to rest on the Shooters on Day 3 today. Para shuttlers and archers are also set to compete in what promises to be another thrilling day of action.
In Shooting, Swaroop Mahavir Unhalkar will compete in the Qualification round of Men’s 10m Air Rifle Standing SH1 while, Rubina Francis will play in qualification in Women’s 10m Air Pistol SH1, this afternoon. In Javelin Throw Athletics, Parveen Kumar will eye to clinch a podium finish in the F57 Final event, tonight.
Yesterday, Day 2 was a memorable day for India as the country bagged four medals. Shooters secured three medals for the nation while one was won in athletics. Shooter Avani Lekhara won second successive Paralympics gold in the women’s 10m air rifle (SH1) event while compatriot Mona Agarwal clinched bronze.
In the Men’s 10-metre Air Pistol SH1 Category, Manish Narwal fetched a silver medal. Moreover, in Athletics, sprinter Preethi Pal secured another medal for India, clinching bronze in the Women’s 100m T35 final event. She became the first-ever sprinter to win a medal for India at the Para Games. In Badminton, the mixed pair of Sivarajan Solaimalai and Nithya Sre Sivan won a thrilling group stage match against Thailand’s Natthapong Meechai and Chai Saeyang by a 21-7, 21-17 margin. With the win, they topped the group and advanced to the semifinal. The semi-final match will take place this evening.
