Over 50 lakh households benefited from rooftop solar installation: Energy Minister Pralhad Joshi

Over fifty lakh households have benefited from rooftop solar installations across the country under the PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana. Union Minister of New and Renewable Energy Pralhad Joshi today said that the scheme is empowering citizens while accelerating India’s transition towards a clean and energy-secure future. In a social media post he highlighted that over nineteen lakh households are reporting zero electricity bills. The Minister also said that over twenty five thousand Central Government buildings and more than eighty one thousand State Government buildings are now powered by rooftop solar.

The Ministry of New and Renewable Energy informed that the scheme is benefiting one lakh households every six days, making it one of the fastest growing clean energy programmes in the world. It added that in July this year, over five lakh households benefited under the scheme, the highest ever monthly figure since the scheme began. The pace of installation has increased 3.2 times over the last nine months, recording over sixteen thousand installations a day in July this year. The Ministry further said that to support this momentum, over twenty eight thousand crore rupees in subsidy has been released directly to beneficiaries through Direct Benefit Transfer.
