Union Minister of New and Renewable Energy Pralhad Joshi has said that more than 21 lakh of the 65 lakh homes with PM Surya Ghar rooftop solar have received a zero electricity bill.
In an article for a daily newspaper, Mr Joshi highlighted that solar power that cost around eight rupees a unit in 2014-15 now sells for as low as 2.15 rupees.
He emphasised that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, India has achieved both speed and scale, with installed solar capacity up by around six thousand per cent in the last 12 years.
Mr Joshi further said that India stands as the only G20 country to have met its 2030 target of 50 per cent non-fossil capacity five years early.
Talking about the Bharat Renewable Energy Summit and Expo 2026, he said that for the first time the summit will host the 9th International Solar Alliance Assembly and 4th International Conference on Green Hydrogen together.
He added that the summit will provide a platform for countries to discuss how reliable power, energy security without imported fuel, and food security through solar irrigation can be achieved, all in the spirit of Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam.
The Bharat Renewable Energy Summit and Expo 2026 will be inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi today.
