In Nepal, more than 100 foreign trekkers are stranded at various locations after flooding over the weekend swept away hiking trails and bridges in the country’s central region. Authorities rescued 321 people, including 12 foreigners, today after a pre-dawn landslide in Gorkha district, about 100 kilometres west of Kathmandu, blocked the Budhi Gandaki River, triggering downstream flooding. The army said rescue operations would continue tomorrow, even as the river’s water level receded. The Budhi Gandaki is a tributary of the Trishuli River, which was affected by a catastrophic flood in August following a glacier collapse in another tributary. The disaster killed 1,457 people, while thousands remain missing. No fatalities were reported in the latest flooding.
