The nomination process for the 13 seats of fourth phase of Lok Sabha elections has been completed in Uttar Pradesh. Polling on these seats will be held on May 13. This also includes the important seat of Kannauj, which is considered as a bastion of Samajwadi Party. SP Chief Akhilesh Yadav, who has been an MP from this seat thrice, is once again in the electoral fray. At the same time, the BJP has again nominated current MP Subrata Pathak as its candidate. Bahujan Samaj Party has fielded Imran Bin Zafar. Apart from these, 12 other candidates are also trying their luck in the elections.
Kannauj parliamentary constituency, which is known as the perfume city, has a total of 19,82,589 voters. SP national president Akhilesh Yadav has entered in the electoral fray to win this seat back. This has increased the enthusiasm among SP workers. Akhilesh Yadav has won this seat three times in a row in 2000, 2004 and 2009. In 2014, the SP chief’s wife Dimple Yadav became an MP from here, but in the 2019 elections, BJP’s Subrata Pathak defeated Mulayam’s daughter-in-law Dimple Yadav by 12 thousand 353 votes and demolished the stronghold of the Samajwadi Party. This time also, BJP has fielded MP Subrata Pathak again in the election fray. At the same time, Imran Bin Zafar from Bahujan Samaj Party is trying to make the contest triangular.
