NIT-Srinagar is set to become the country’s first National Institute of Technology to have a dedicated campus-based observatory equipped with a high-performance 14-inch Schmidt-Cassegrain telescope.
The Observatory for Astronomy and Astrophysics will be inaugurated tomorrow. The facility, developed with scientific guidance from the Indian Institute of Astrophysics, Bengaluru, will enable advanced observations and imaging of the Moon, planets, nebulae, star clusters and distant galaxies.
NIT-Srinagar said the observatory will support student training, research, astrophotography and public outreach.
