In Syria, an explosive device detonated in a Damascus cafe yesterday, killing at least nine people. The Interior Ministry reported the device was planted inside the cafe, located 100 metres from the Palace of Justice in the capital’s Hejaz district. Syria’s Health Ministry said 20 others were wounded. No group immediately claimed responsibility. Security forces cordoned off the area to investigate the attack. Visiting the scene, Damascus Governor Maher Marwan Idlibi said the device appeared primitive and vowed perpetrators would be held to account.
