NHRC issues notice to Punjab government over allegations against CM’s wife

The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has issued a notice to the Punjab government over allegations that Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann’s wife demanded five crore rupees to allegedly suppress a rape case.

The NHRC bench, presided over by its member Priyank Kanoongo, has taken cognizance of the allegations and issued a notice to the Punjab Chief Secretary and Director General of Police, directing them to get the allegations probed and submit an Action Taken Report (ATR) within two weeks for the Commission’s perusal.

Quoting the notice issued under the Protection of Human Rights Act, 1993, Akashvani Correspondent reports that the Commission has also forwarded the matter to the Women Safety Division of the Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India. The complaint was filed by the Legal Rights Observatory (LRO).
