The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has issued notice to the Union Home Secretary and the Director General, Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), over the reported death of 19 CRPF personnel by suicide between January to May this year. Taking suo motu cognisance of the incident, the Commission has called for a detailed report on the matter within two weeks. According to the media report, a total of 281 CRPF personnel died by suicide in the last five years. The Commission has observed that if the contents of the news report is true, then it raises serious issues of violation of the right to life of the personnel working with the largest Central Armed Police Force of the country.
