NHRC celebrates its 33rd Foundation Day; Chairperson highlights need to strengthen human rights protection

The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) today celebrated its 33rd Foundation Day in New Delhi, highlighting the need to strengthen human rights protection in the face of emerging global and technological challenges. Established on October 12, 1993, the Commission has worked towards promoting and protecting human rights across the country. Addressing on the occasion the NHRC India Chairperson Justice V Ramasubramanian emphasised that while the world has made significant progress in healthcare, education and living standards, challenges such as climate change, economic inequality and social vulnerability continue to affect millions of people. He also highlighted growing concerns over digital privacy and surveillance, noting that technology can influence public opinion, shape people’s thinking and monitor their activities. Justice Ramasubramanian  stressed the need for human rights institutions to adapt to changing times, strengthen their working systems and reaffirm their commitment to safeguarding human dignity and freedom.
