Nepal: Road Subsidence Disrupts Transportation in Daunne

Transportation at Daunne of Nawalpur in Susurpaschim of western Nepal has been disrupted due to road subsidence last night. Only one-way traffic is allowed at Daunne section along the East-West Highway to repair the road that caved in. The maintenance work is being carried out to prevent further damage. While two houses collapsed in Dilashaini of Baitadi in Gandaki province due to a landslide triggered by rain and two other houses are also at risk due to the landslide. The property was completely damaged but there was no loss of life. A total of 173 people lost their lives in natural disasters including landslides and floods that occurred at different places of the country till this afternoon from June 10. A total of 384 houses were inundated due to floods while 275 houses, 104 huts, 43 bridges, two school buildings and two government offices suffered damages. Spokesperson Dan Bahadur Karki informed that 4,322 families were displaced from the disaster incidents as well as 812 cattle died during the period.
