Nepal’s Federalism Strengthening and National Concern Committee of the National Assembly has instructed the Home Ministry to seek a long-term solution to the border dispute between Humla and Bajura districts. Humla lies in Karnali Province, and Bajura lies in Sudurpaschim Province in northwestern Nepal. There have been reported violent clashes between people from both districts, with an ongoing border dispute over valuable medicinal herbs and wildlife. In the last month, residents clashed over the construction of a temporary police post in the Lampata area at the Humla-Bajura border, in which five were injured.
A meeting of the Committee held yesterday under the chair of Committee Chairperson Jayanti Devi Rai directed the government to ensure a sustainable resolution of the border dispute by holding intensive discussions among local people, the administration, and concerned stakeholders. During the meeting, Home Secretary Rajkumar Shrestha shared that the border dispute in the Lampata Chyachaur area along the Humla and Bajura districts has currently returned to normal. Preparations were ongoing to establish a temporary joint security base.
