In Jammu and Kashmir, nearly 39 thousand households have benefited from rooftop solar installations under the PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana (PM-SGMBY). The Centre informed the Lok Sabha that 38,955 rooftop solar installations have been completed in the Union Territory as of 24th July 2026, covering 38,955 households.
In a written reply, the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy said 38,318 installations are above 3 KWp, while 387 are in the 2-3 KWp category and 103 are up to 2 KWp. The Ministry said banks have sanctioned 29,441 loan applications worth 533.05 crore rupees for rooftop solar installations in Jammu and Kashmir. Of these, 24,308 loans amounting to 437.34 crore rupees have been disbursed to beneficiaries.
The Government further informed that 8,673 consumers in the Union Territory have reported zero electricity bills after installing rooftop solar systems under the scheme. This includes 4,128 consumers served by the Jammu Power Distribution Corporation Limited (JPDCL) and 4,545 consumers under the Kashmir Power Distribution Corporation Limited (KPDCL).
