National Commission for Minorities (NCM) Chairman, Harjit Singh Grewal said that around 7,000 complaints are pending before the Commission and efforts are on to resolve them at the earliest to protect the rights of minorities and promote justice, equality and inclusive development.

 

Shri Grewal, who was in Chandigarh today, to gather suggestions and understand issues concerning minority communities in Punjab said that genuine grievances and suggestions would be examined within the Commission’s mandate.

 

Addressing a concern, during a press conference today, on Sikh prisoners and their parole, the Chairman said that such matters fall within the jurisdiction of law and order and are dealt with in accordance with the applicable legal framework. He also emphasised the importance of ensuring the safety, dignity and smooth pilgrimage of Sikh devotees travelling to religious destinations. He said that India provides an environment where people of different faiths can freely practise their religion with dignity and security.
