The Narcotics Control Bureau, NCB, has sought greater partnership with the chemical industry to prevent the diversion of precursor chemicals for the illicit manufacture of narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances.
Director General, NCB, Anurag Garg, released the Voluntary Code of Conduct for the chemical industry at a conference in Ahmedabad. The framework aims to promote responsible chemical stewardship, strengthen supply-chain integrity and enhance vigilance across the sector.
The Voluntary Code of Conduct has been designed to facilitate the early detection and reporting of suspicious transactions involving chemicals that could potentially be diverted for illegal drug production.
The NCB said the initiative seeks to foster closer cooperation between law enforcement agencies and industry stakeholders to ensure that legitimate trade channels are not exploited by drug trafficking networks.
It added that active industry participation is essential to strengthening the country’s efforts to curb the misuse of precursor chemicals and combat the menace of illicit drugs.
