In a major crackdown on cross-border synthetic drug trafficking in the Northeast, the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) Agartala Zonal Unit, along with its Aizawl Field Office, seized 22.299 kg of methamphetamine tablets worth approximately ₹17.84 crore in two separate operations in Mizoram and Tripura. Four persons, including a Myanmar national, were arrested.
In Mizoram, the NCB Aizawl Field Office, in coordination with Serchhip Police, CID (SB) and Serchhip DSB, conducted an intelligence-based operation near the India-Myanmar border in the Zokhawthar-Champhai sector during the intervening night of September 2-3. A Myanmar national, Lalpanliana, was apprehended, and 14.26 kg of methamphetamine, valued at around ₹11.41 crore, was seized along with a Yamaha motorcycle and mobile phones.
In Tripura, the NCB Agartala Zonal Unit intercepted a Tata Dumper near Bishramganj in Sepahijala district on September 3. A search operation later recovered 8.039 kg of methamphetamine tablets concealed in a backpack beneath the co-driver’s seat. Three Tripura residents were arrested. Further investigation is underway to trace the drug networks, financial links and intended recipients. NCB urged citizens to report drug-related information through its 24×7 toll-free helpline 1933.
