National Task Force Conducts Visits to Assess Student Mental Health

The National Task Force on Mental Health of Students and Prevention of Suicides in Higher Education Institutions has conducted field visits to 30 higher education institutions across 10 States since May last year. The visits were aimed at assessing regional and institutional challenges related to student mental health. The Task Force has also held 25 stakeholder consultations. These were organised to adopt an interdisciplinary and equity-oriented approach.

Since January this year, the consultations have focused on several key issues. These include caste discrimination, gender and mental health, concerns of students from Scheduled Tribe and OBC communities, disabilities, decriminalisation of suicide, the role of mental health NGOs, and issues concerning law students.
